Interlibrary loan (ILL) is the librarian-assisted borrowing of physical items and journal articles not held in Thrift Library's collection.
Current Anderson University students, faculty, and staff are eligible to use ILL. Only AU users residing within South Carolina may request physical items through ILL via PASCAL Delivers. All others should follow the instructions for Distance Learners and Visitors.
Checkout, Renewal, and Return of Physical ILL items
Physical items will arrive at the PASCAL library location you selected within 2-14 days. You will receive an email to your AU email account when your items are ready for pickup.
The due date is determined by the lending library and will be noted in your Thrift Library account and on a book sleeve attached to your requested item.
If renewals are allowed by the lending library, they must be requested early - preferably 3 days or more prior to the due date. Lending libraries are under no obligation to honor renewal requests and do not accept renewal requests made after the due date.
Please make every effort to return your ILL physical items in a timely manner. Failure to do so reflects badly on Thrift Library and AU and will make the lending library reluctant to lend to us in the future. Users are expected to pay for each lost item. Replacement cost and processing fees will vary based upon the originating library.
Receipt of Digital ILL items
Digital ILL items will be emailed directly to your AU email account, typically within 1-5 days. They do not need to be returned or renewed.
Limitations
- Ebooks and online videos cannot be borrowed.
- Copyright law prohibits the digitization of full physical books for lending.
- Many libraries do not lend media, software, dissertations, or rare books.
- Copyright law states that libraries can only order five articles from the same periodical in the same year. This law does not apply when articles are more than five years old.
- Some article requests require a fee. If this fee exceeds Thrift Library's budget, you will be contacted to determine the next steps for meeting your information need.
Errors
Occasionally an incorrect item is delivered via ILL. If this occurs, send an email with a description of the error and the correct bibliographic information for the item to ill@andersonuniversity.edu.
